It Takes All of Us
World Homelessness Day | 10 October
When you think of homelessness, what comes to mind?
You may picture someone sleeping rough on the streets. Certainly, rough sleeping is one form of homelessness but the reality is often far more complex, and much closer to home than we might imagine.
This World Homelessness Day, we are helping you to challenge common perceptions of homelessness.
Homelessness doesn't always look the way people expect. It can affect young people sofa surfing between friends' homes, families living in temporary accommodation, people fleeing domestic abuse, or individuals struggling to make ends meet after an unexpected life event.
Many people experiencing homelessness are hidden from view, facing housing insecurity without others ever realising. By challenging assumptions and encouraging reflection, we hope to build greater understanding of what homelessness really means and the impact it has on individuals, families and communities.
At Alongside, we are committed to standing with people facing some of life's toughest challenges. Whether supporting young people at risk of homelessness, helping people recover after a crisis, or providing practical support to rebuild stability, we're there when it's needed most.
But creating lasting change requires more than services alone.
It takes all of us.
It takes all of us to look beyond stereotypes and see the reality of homelessness in our communities. It takes all of us to challenge stigma, raise awareness, and ensure that people facing homelessness are met with compassion and support rather than judgement.
This World Homelessness Day, take a moment to watch our video, share it with others, and help start conversations that lead to change.
Because ending homelessness isn't something any one person or organisation can achieve alone.
It takes all of us.
If you can, please make a donation to support Alongside’s accommodation and practical support for people experiencing homelessness.
